Saharsa: It's a double whammy for lakhs of villagers of Bihar's Supaul district. Marooned ever since the Kosi breached its embankment at kusaha in Nepal on August 18th 2008, they are now falling prey to human greed and hooliganism.Unbelievable, flattened rice is selling ar Rs.80 tp Rs.100/- a Kg and milk at Rs.100/- to
Rs.150/-a litre. a Rs.3 biscuit packet now comes for anything between Rs.20/- and Rs.50/- in the flood-hit villages of the district.
Yet, villagers returning to Saharsa told TOI people are buying them. For the relief work
undertaken by the government is like a drop in the ocean. This is evident from the figure furnished by the Supaul administration. It admits over nine lakhs people of five blocks in the district have been affected by the flood. And a meagre 10,720 food packets have been airdropped till Wednesday.
"Hungry Children are crying. a number of people are eating uncooked rice,"
it takes 24 hrs to cover 100Km to reach Saharsa. Survival is the biggest problem before people.
The boasts are available at a ever heard cost - Rs.3000/- to Rs.5000/-. Most of them seem to take advantage in those situation.
